Top 10 Best 2.1 Speakers in 2017 – Complete Guide

Is it that time of the decade when you change the battered speakers standing guard on either side of your PC? Maybe they are damaged or maybe they don’t fulfil your need for bass anymore. Why not move on to a 2.1 computer speaker set? This 3-member gang of a subwoofer and two satellite speakers can shake up the things a bit. The life of any song is the bass. This slow, underlining force can make or break the song for you. Having a subwoofer to pump out this low-frequency stream is only logical. No 2.0 speaker system can match up with the best 2.1 computer speakers in their dynamic audio. We picked out the best of them so that your upgrade does not go wasted this time.

2.0 speakers vs 2.1 speakers?

The best 2.0 speakers are a set of two full-range speakers without a subwoofer. The drivers in this speaker pair try to produce all frequencies from bass to treble. But a small 3-inch driver cannot reproduce the lower-end frequencies well all on its own. The upside is that they are space-saving and may be cheaper than 2.1 speakers of similar capabilities.

Now, a bass setup needs space. You will have a big woofer and space for reflection. This is why 2.1 speakers have a separate subwoofer piece. This is dedicated to producing bass aplenty. Do you need them? For a half decent music reproduction, yes you need them. If you are a gamer, you definitely need them. 2.1 computer speakers sound more dynamic and richer. Usually the 2.0 speakers sound tinny in comparison. But 2.1 speakers need you to make extra space for the sub. So be prepared to shell out the land.

Is subwoofer necessary to enjoy music?

The enthusiasm of that one friend who raves about subwoofers is likely to get you eventually. If you already have a pair of great 2.0 speakers, the subwoofer might not be doing much for you. The reason is you don’t realize what you are missing. Subwoofer causes the audio to sound much more full-bodied than an ordinary 2.0 set. You might feel like your entire room is filled with sound instead of hollow crooning.

Or else the differences could be subtle. Some instruments like organs can play at frequencies as low as 15 Hz. You can distinctly hear frequencies close to20 Hz (Our lower listening limit) only with a subwoofer in play. For normal music, it’s not a must. Action movies and games need the subs.

Which are the best 2.1 speakers for computer?

If you are looking for the best 2.1 computer speakers that can multi-task and play your music, games and movies with consistent panache then we’re jammin’. We scourged the market and picked up 10 top 2.1 speakers based on:

Audio:Audio remains the main parameter while selecting speakers. Computers are dexterous devices.  You can play games on them, watch movies or stream music on them. Such multimedia devices need multimedia speakers which can keep up with the challenge of playing different formats and different genres of music. The bass should be powerful but not overbearing. The mids should be clear for movie dialogues. The treble should be bright for music. The best 2.1 computer speakers bear all these tantrums.

Value-on-money: Since the advent of portable MP3 players and smartphones, there is a decline in popularity of computer speakers. So to sell, they have to make sure that the buyer is getting the most out of them. We selected the ones that were worth every dime of their price.

Features: Since the best 2.1 computer speakers are connected to such advanced devices, you come to expect a lot out of them.We gave preference to speakers that balanced their audio capabilities with other features like headphone jack, control pods, Bass volume knobs etc.

Looks:The best 2.1 computer speakers were also checked for their aesthetic appeal. Some of them have a stylish touch to their appearance while others look plain but classy.

Ease of setup: Not everyone is quick with electronics and computers. So the 2.1 speakers were tested for ease of installation. The best ones require minimum physical connections and almost no software downloads or changes.

  1. Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX Certified Computer Speaker System

klipsch-promedia-2-1-thx-certified-computer-speaker-systemKlipsch dominates many a stereophile debate when it comes to their headphones. So we were hardly surprised to find that their audio prowess passes on to the speakers domain. The Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 computer speakers have been in the market for over a decade now. That not only speaks of their durability but also how they have impressed the casual listeners. Can the audio be better? Sure. But they balance all physical, financial and acoustic aspects to make it to the best 2.1 computer speakers list.

Design and Features

The Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 computer speaker has one of those designs that never go out of fashion. The matte black side-firing subwoofer sits squat with each side measuring around 10 inches. The satellite speakers are normal tower-like structures measuring 8.5” x 4.2” x 5.67”. have removable clothe grilles over their 3-inch drivers and 0.75-inch tweeters.

The controls of this 2.1 computer speaker are placed in an array under the speaker grille of the right satellite speaker. This includes main volume and a bass volume knob. Unfortunately, the power button resides at the back of subwoofer. The volume knob does not power down the speaker at minimum and there’s no remote. So powering off this computer speaker is a hassle. It connects to the audio source via a 3.5mm jack located on the satellite. It also has a headphone jack which cuts out the music immediately when connected. While these 2.1 speakers are partially hardwired, each speaker is protected against power surges by a fuse. They are also THX-certified which means that they surpass a certain standard of sound reproduction.

Audio

The Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 computer speakers have been around so long for a reason. The 6.5-inch driver of the subwoofer chugs out plenty of bass. It has good definition for the price. Logitech Z2300 has a more refined bass but to a normal music-lover, Klipsch will hardly sound any worse. In fact the bass is taut and does not muddy the mids. But at the highest volumes, you will hear some distortion. But this happens only close to 106 dB and you are not likely to turn the music that high.

ProMedia 2.1 computer speakers take the cake away from Z2300 in the mid and high frequencies. There’s a clean audiophiliac touch to how the vocals, guitars and treble are handled. Midrange is crisp and the treble sparkles.

Pros:

  • Clear and refined mids and high
  • Meaty bass
  • Satellites consume less space
  • Has headphone jack

Cons:

  • Power button is hard to reach

  1. Harman Kardon Soundsticks III 2.1 Channel Multimedia Speaker System

harman-kardon-soundsticks-iii-2-1-channel-multimedia-speaker-systemHarman Kardon pulled off an ace move with the Soundsticks line of speakers. The Soundsticks III 2.1 computer speaker saw very little upgrade over the previous model but it sports the same UFO-like design that has geeks tripping over each other to buy it. The satellites loaded with four drivers and the cool subwoofer easily paved their way to the best 2.1 speakers list.  Soundsticks III can use minor improvements in its design execution but it knows its audio well. There’s substance behind the outer appearance.

Design and Features

The looks of Soundsticks III 2.1 computer speaker are so unique that it won a place in the New York City’s museum of Art permanent collection.  All three pieces are made of clear glass with the circuitry hidden ingeniously in the architecture. The Subwoofer is a see-through dome that looks like something Indiana Jones might be chasing. The satellites are literally ‘sticks’ of 10-inch height and 2-inch diameter that sit on a doughnut-shaped base. With this arrangement, it is easier to aim the satellite speakers in the direction of your ears.

The cables of this computer speaker with subwoofer are semi-hardwired. So there’s no escaping the wrath of shot wires. The sub has a 3.5mm port which can be used to connect it to the source. The main volume is controlled by touch-sensitive buttons. The bass volume is annoyingly-placed on the subwoofer. A light glows inside the transparent assembly. This cannot be turned off unless you turn off the speakers. But the light is not as distracting as that of the previous versions because of the color and intensity change.  The only thing that this speaker should have really worked on is a remote control. It would have completed the futuristic looks of Soundsticks III.

Audio

Harman Kardon put a great deal of effort into packing engaging audio into the pretty Soundsticks III 2.1 computer speakers. The sub carries a 6-inch 20-watt driver while the satellites have four 1-inch drivers each totaling 10W power capacity. The bass is enviably clean so you don’t face any distortion here, no matter how much you test the volume control. The treble and midrange remained clear as well.

The audio of this 2.1 computer speaker is detailed and warm within the 44Hz-20kHz range. Klipsch ProMedia offers a slightly larger frequency coverage. This might or might not make a difference. But the fact remains that ProMedia sounds a smidgen more dynamic than the Soundsticks III. That being said, the Soundsticks can handle complicated music well. And it has the vigor to match up with the fast rhythm of the music.

Pros:

  • Awe-inspiring design
  • Warm, smooth audio
  • Zero distortion
  • Touch volume and mute controls

Cons:

  • No headphone jack

  1. Logitech Z-2300 THX-Certified 2.1 Speaker System with Subwoofer

logitech-z-2300-thx-certified-2-1-speaker-system-with-subwooferLogitech Z-2300 2.1 computer speaker set is the heir of an illustrious predecessor, the Z-2200. The market was ruled by Z-2200 for its decadent audio and classic looks. When Z-2300 came up, we hoped that Logitech had not tried to repair what’s not broken. Sure enough, Z-2300 carries the same charm as the 2200s, but they do it in a sleeker package. After being around for 5 years, we still can’t let go of them, hence their place in the best 2.1 computer speakers list.

Design and Features

The Z2300 2.1 computer speakers from Logitech combine black and silver colors and manage to get classier than 2200. The subwoofer is a squat box with beveled edges with speaker grille done in black. It measures 10 inches in every direction. The satellite speakers fire forward at an upward angle towards your ears. This configuration cannot be changed so you are going to be in a fix if you are short. The wires are partially hardwired, so make sure you don’t let your pet gnaw on the wiring.

There’s a wired remote integrated into the package of this 2.1 speaker.  It has the headphone port, the main volume and the bass volume knobs. The power button of Z-2300 is also situated on this. It is shipped with a free video game console adapter that helps you connect easily to your gaming equipment, DVD players etc. The sub carries an 8-inch, 120W driver which can rattle your computer desk with a rendition of Beastie Boys.  The drivers of the satellite are 2.5-inch with 80 watts total power.

Audio

Although they look great, the main takeaway from the Logitech Z-2300 2.1 computer speakers is their audio. The majestic power of bass is evident in the mammoth subwoofer. If you have a PC table then it might dance along with you at Dirt Off Your Shoulders.  The mid and high frequencies remain untouched by the influence of the bass though. Because of the bigger woofer size, bass gets sufficient space to resonate.  In spite of being punchy, it does not distort at high volumes.

Given the use of Class-AB amplifiers, the Z-2300 speakers produce a hi-fidelity reproduction of the analog human voices. The soundstage is generously wide and confines a proper stereo image which makes the sound more immersive. The equalization is controlled by PC equalizer. Having one set of equalization controls greatly takes the complications out of frequency tuning.

Pros:

  • Expressive and refined audio
  • Excellent bass
  • Handy wired remote control
  • Comes with a Video game console adapter

Cons:

  • Speaker wires are hardwired

  1. Logitech Z623 200 Watt Home Speaker System, 2.1 Speaker System

logitech-z623-200-watt-home-speaker-system-2-1-speaker-systemTechnically Logitech Z623 2.1 computer speaker is the newer model of Z2300. It is much cheaper than the 2300. In cutting costs, some of the power of the speaker was compromised. Still Z623 remains one of the few quality 2.1 speaker systems in the market when everybody is pining for iPods and 5.1s.It has a bold audio coupled with a space-smart architecture for the new generation. Z623 brings enough value on your investment to be on the best 2.1 speakers list.

Design and Features

Logitech Z623 2.1 computer speaker is an all-black affair. It uses simple curves and lines for its construction and blends into your official environment. It is at least 5 inches lesser than the Z-2300 depth-wise. The satellite speakers taper towards the bottom. They measure 7.8” x5.6” x5.4”.  Instead of the wired remote used by the Z-2300 speakers, all the controls of Z623 are on the right satellite. These include the power button, the volume and the bass volume knobs. We missed the remote control from Z-2300 sorely here. But then again, when you have the volumes set for daily use, it’s better not to have a remote control wire in the fray.

To connect to the audio source, this 2.1 computer speaker uses a 3.5mm auxiliary port. It also has a headphone jack.  A hardwired cable runs out the back of each speaker and connects to the subwoofer.  The price of Z623 speaker has declined over time. It makes a very convenient gaming speaker, so it also made it to the best gaming speakers list.

Audio

Like its predecessor, the Logitech Z623 2.1 computer speaker is THX-certified. Any movie buff will be impressed at how well-crafted the audio experience is. It uses a 7-inch woofer to pump out the bass and it is a punchy presence. It might not rock your world like the 8-inch driver of the Z-2230 because Z623 has a lesser bass extension. But the bass is still visceral and transforms the way you game on your PC.  Due to the high power ratings, the audio gets loud and boisterous.

The vocals and highs of this 2.1 computer speakers were open and fashioned with intricate detailing. You get to hear hitherto unheard details in the music. We found that the highs were not as bright as the Soundsticks III. But they work well for someone who likes their music to be laidback.

Pros:

  • Brilliant bass
  • Refined audio
  • High value for money on current price
  • Space-smart subwoofer

Cons:

  • Build quality can be better

  1. Corsair Gaming Audio Series SP2500 High-Power 2.1 PC Speaker System

corsair-gaming-audio-series-sp2500-high-power-2-1-pc-speaker-systemCorsair got into the 2.1 computer speakers game with all guns firing.Their SP2500 gaming speakers boast of 232W of power, all of which has been focused on well-defined audio with vigorous bass.               Their audio rings quite high and true. If you are gaming with friends, you are likely to rouse the whole block. Being gaming speakers of enormous power capacity, these tend to take up appreciable amount of space. For cut-throat gamers and those of you who enjoy action movies and rowdy music, these are the best 2.1 computer speakers.

Design and Features

The bulk of the Corsair SP2500 2.1 computer speakers is immediately noticeable upon unboxing. The beefy subwoofer alone stands 18.1 inches long, 11.7 inches tall and 10.2 inches deep. The pudgy satellite speakers are minion-like to look at. They stand 6.25 inches tall, 4.7 inches wide and 4.25 inches deep. The side-firing subwoofer encloses an 8-inch driver. The satellites use a 3-inch midrange driver and a 1-inch tweeter each. We liked that fact that they have a separate tweeter for the highs, which the Z623 missed.

Controlling this 2.1 computer speaker is a cakewalk via the wired desktop controller. To dumb down the process and build more settings into the control pod, it has a 1.8-inch TFT display as well. The remote has slider buttons for bass and volume control with the volume bar displaying on the screen. There are some EQ presets which might save your time if you find your jam there. Being a computer speaker, it has a 3.5mm aux port and a headphone port right on the remote control for easy access.

The only problem with SP2500 that really bothered us is that some buyers have complained of durability issues. And you have to pay yourself for RMA. That makes replacement a costly affair.

Audio

Although Corsair SP2500 2.1 computer system offers a number of EQ options, it sounds great right out of the box. You must know that this speaker is meant to blast music. The cosmic reach of the subwoofer’s bass is a revelation. At any bass or main volume, the bass holds its high-clarity standards. You will be hearing new things in the lower-registers when you get the speakers going. Even as the volume is lowered, you keep hearing the bass underlining your music. The lower-end is taut and does not bleed into mids.

Vocals and guitars make their impact in every song. The 1-inch tweeter adds sparkle to the treble but we think Soundsticks III did marginally better in spite of much lower power. All this is set in a wide and deep soundstage for an engulfing experience.

Pros:

  • Majestic bass with high clarity
  • Separate midrange driver and tweeter
  • Remote control with TFT display
  • Easy installation

Cons:

  • Subwoofer is beefy
  • RMA is on you

  1. Bose Companion 5 Multimedia Speaker System

bose-companion-5-multimedia-speaker-systemBose is a juggernaut in the audio field. They set trends and their buyers remain loyal for good reason. Their Companion 5 speakers come from a line of acoustic eminence. Having connected these to our TV many times for F.R.I.E.N.D.S re-runs, we can’t help but  keep its clear, immersive audio in the best 2.1 speakers list. The speaker construction and spacing builds a virtual 5.1 Surround sound experience using a 2.1 setup. We felt the audio rather than just hear it. The Companion 5 is more expensive than the rest of the speakers systems in this list, but it’s worth the investment.

Design and Features

Installing and setting up the Bose Companion 5 2.1 computer speaker is one of the most painless experience we have had. The whole set is done in a dark grey colors with silver-colored speaker grilles. The satellite speakers are raised on tall stands that help dispersethe audio around you rather than just at you. The speaker-face of the satellites is curved and aims sound in multiple directions. This way your soundfield is enlarged. It has a circular control pod connected to it. Its top face has a touch-sensitivemute button. Its edges create the volume dial.

This computer speaker with subwoofer is connected to the source using a 6-feet USB cable. There’s also an option of connecting via a 3.5mm aux port.A headphone port is also situated along the 3.5 aux port on the remote control. The satellites can be spanned out with their 8-feet cable each. The bass volume has been inconveniently stationed behind the subwoofer. But if you wish to keep the setting consistent, it is the right place for the knob tobe.

Audio

The boldest claim that Bose made about Companion 5 2.1 computer speakers is that they provide virtual 5.1 Surround sound. With their speaker ergonomics, they do manage to fire the audio in a wide soundstage. So their music sounds more cocooning around you. But even their kind of talent cannot beat a real 5.1 speaker system. The sub packs some bassy wallop for all kinds of music genres.  You find the deep presence of the lower-registers all through the volume levels. We never faced any bass distortion either.

Bose seems to have played with the highs digitally. They sound a tad too bright but it’s more noticeable to a branded audiophile. The high-end emphasis robs the mid-highs of some shine. But we are nitpicking here. These are expensive speakers that use their brand name to shoot the prices high. Theymet our expectations from the price.

Pros:

  • Virtual 5.1 speaker with broad stereo image
  • Excellent bass
  • Has control pod
  • Has USB connecting wire and a 3.5mm port

Cons:

  • An emphasis on highs that wasn’t required

  1. Logitech Speaker System Z523 with Subwoofer

logitech-speaker-system-z523-with-subwooferLogitech stays on top of every 2.1 computer speakers discussion. It’s hard to find options in this area without hitting up Logitech speakers repeatedly. Their Z523 system is the champion of low-budget buyers. This affordable speaker makes a mark on general populace by offering the best audio its price-point can buy. It has all the basic facilities coupled with a pleasant design. It looks better than its price. There’s hardly a reason to keep it out of the best 2.1 speakers list.

Design and Features

Logitech sticks to the usual speaker design when it comes to the Z523 2.1 computer speaker. The subwoofer is a cube with four stubs to stand on.It takes up very less space compared to the subs of Pro Media. The left satellite has a plain glossy black face with just the speaker grille. The right one has a silver panel with a bass and a volume knob. The glossy front face of the satellites is a fingerprint-magnet so beware when you are moving these around.

This computer speaker with subwoofer is connected to the playback devices through a 3.5mm cable from the speaker. Apart from this, there’s a 3.5mm aux port and a headphone port on the side of the satellite. The back of the sub has RCA jacks which are a pleasant addition to its arsenal. The satellites stand only 7.7 inches high with 2-inch drivers in front and back. Logitech made this move to provide omnidirectional sound via the two drivers. They curve along their spine to fire the sound upward at an angle. The subwoofer hides a 4-inch driver and a 6.5-inch passive port.

Audio

Given the current price of the Logitech Z523 2.1 computer speaker, we did not expect hi-end acoustics. But the speaker impressed us anyway. There’s a moderate-high amount of clarity in the audio all through the frequency spectrum. The subwoofer does its job well in churning out the lower registers. We didn’t find the bass boomy or tinny.

The gimmick of front and rear drivers in satellites works when this 2.1 speaker is placed at the center of the room. This way, you will hear its audio both behind and in front of it. Audio does not fire to the side, so technically it is not 360⁰ coverage. But we mostly kept the speakers near the walls.

Pros:

  • Pleasant natural audio
  • Has 3.5mm cable, RCA ports, 3.5mm ports
  • Has headphone jack
  • Satellite speakers have front and back drivers
  • Affordable

Cons:

  • No high-range tweeter

  1. Altec Lansing VS4621 Octane 7, 2.1 Computer Speaker

altec-lansing-vs4621-octane-7-2-1-computer-speakerRemember that kid in your school who was good at everything but not great at anything. Well that’s Altec Lansing Octane 7 2.1 computer speakers for you. This unique design can draw some stares and compliments. The audio is flush with warmth and smoothness.  The wide open audio is a detour from the Cyber Acoustics and Logitech speakers of the same price. Except for the lack of details, Octane 7 is a top choice for the best 2.1 computer speakers list.

Design and Features

The Octane 7 2.1 computer speaker caught our attention on the aisle solely because of the innovative design. While the subwoofer is built the traditional way, the satellite speakers look like towers in a frock. These are cylindrical structures mounted on a conical base. They pack 3-inch midrange drivers that are down-firing. That’s right. Altec claims that this design quirk is to reflect the sound off the ground and disperse it for a wider stereo image. The subwoofer holds a side-firing 6.5-inch driver for the lower-registers.  Fashioned out of matte black material, Octane 7 is not the most glamorous speaker in Altec’s kitty. But their architecture catches you eye.

All the controls reside on the conical base of the right speaker. These include three knobs, one each for master volume, bass volume and treble level. It also has a 3.5mm auxiliary port that connects to the playback devices like smartphones, iPods, iPads etc.  Although differently-shaped, the area consumed by this 2.1 computer speaker is relatively less.

Audio

Altec Lansing’s decision to have midrange drivers fire downwards in the Octane 7 2.1 computer speaker is not a complete success. The mids and lows have decent clarity. They do not sound exceptional given the concept driven by Altec.  You can tweak the equalizer a little bit for some more clarity on the go. The satellites also contain two 1-inch micro-drivers each for the high frequencies.

The soundstage of this speaker is much airier and open compared to popular speakers in the same range. Altec’s legacy of outstanding speakers is evident here.  We liked that the sound was balanced at the medium settings of bass and treble volume. You won’t find much distortion in the bass region up till high volumes. It is also free of sibilance.

Pros:

  • Cool looks
  • Affordable
  • Has USB and 3.5mm connection
  • Decent audio with wide soundstage

Cons:

  • No headphone jack
  • Needs more clarity

  1. Edifier USA 2.1 Speaker System (M3200)

edifier-usa-2-1-speaker-system-m3200If speaker aesthetics are at all important to you, you might want to break the mold of boxy subwoofers and satellites. Edifier USA M3200 2.1 computer speaker goes for a voluptuous design that reminds you of dancers in an oasis somewhere in the Sahara desert. This is achild in the market compared to the myriad Logitech speakers, but it gives them a tough combination with decent audio and some special architectural capabilities. We were floored by its glamour and talent and sped it straight to the best 2.1 computer speakers list.

Design and Features

Imagine having squat, boxy speakers in your living room. If that gives you the creeps, turn right to the Edifier USA M3200 2.1 computer speakers. The subwoofer is here is a tall cuboid with the front face flaring like a long skirt. The two satellite speakers stand like hourglasses on either side. Their petite waist is accentuated by blue or red highlights. The usual pieces aside, this speaker also comes with a volume control pod. Itstop face can be used to lower or increase the master volume. It connects to the subwoofer using a plug, so it can be tucked out of way if not needed.

There are two line-in ports on the subwoofer to connect to audio playback devices like MP3 players or CD players. Another 3.5mm line-in is on the remote control pod. This way you can have three devices connected to the speakers at any point. You can play from only one at a time. There’s also a headphone-out jack on it. The power button is on the control pod.

The subwoofer of this 2.1 set hides a 5.5-inch driver. The satellites have a midrange driver in the lower portion and a tweeter in the top portion. Another excellent quality of this speaker is that you can connect it to the AirPort Express and use it to stream AirPlay music. If that’s not how you roll, you can check out the best AirPlay speakers here.

Audio

Once we got over the novel looks of the Edifier USA M3200 2.1 computer speaker, we moved on quick to its audio. As audiophiles, we try not to critique all sets with stringent standards. After all, the M3200 does not cost as much as the Logitech Z-2300. We found the audio of the M3200 enjoyable. It has ample bass coming from the subwoofer. It is not particularly detailed but it remains smooth and treats bad formats well.

The highs and midrange remain pristine without any bass muddying them. If they were a little more refined, we would have put this 2.1 computer speaker in the same league as the Logitech Z523.

Pros:

  • Pretty looks
  • Enjoyable audio
  • Has three 3.5mm ports
  • Has headphone port
  • Has volume control pod

Cons:

  • Audio lacks refinement

  1. Cyber Acoustics 30 Watt Powered Speakers with Subwoofer for PC

cyber-acoustics-30-watt-powered-speakers-with-subwoofer-for-pcThe Cyber Acoustics CA-3602 speaker is the cheapest entry on the best 2.1 computer speakers list. If you want maximum value for your money and have a small budget, these speakers are the perfect pick. Costing as much as a low-end headphone, they combine simple looks with agreeable audio. They can rock a mid-sized room with their 30W RMS power. With a control pod handy, this speaker is easy to install and use.

Design and Features

The CA-3602 2.1 computer speaker is a handsome posse. The somber subwoofer goes for a matte black finish with sharp edges. Meanwhile, the satellite speakers have a glossy black face. Their drivers are encircled by dull silver rings. They are permanently mounted on silver-colored stands. Although, it cost very less, we did not mind displaying this speaker in the front room.

The subwoofer stands 11-inches tall and claims a wooden cabinet which helps in better acoustics. This side-firing piece carries a 5.25-inch driver. Its front has a passive bass radiator. The satellites carry two 2-inch drivers each. They stand angled upward so that the audio is focused at you ear level.

The remote control pod of this 2.1 computer speaker is wired to the speaker. It has the bass volume wheel integrated on the side. The edges of the top face act as the master volume control. The pod also holds a 3.5mm auxiliary line-in and a headphone port. As a surprise addition, the speaker is also shipped with a rack to hold your phone or iPod while it’s connected to the speaker. The CA-3602 2.1 computer speakers are a budget set. So we kept our expectations and criticisms in check while testing these. We enjoyed our time with these speakers. The audio was balanced. The bass remained in line without touching the mids. The mids and highs played with as much grace as their budget would allow. We weren’t disturbed by any distortion or sibilance at high volume. Bass extension into the lower frequencies is limited. So when you turn down the volumes, you can barely register the lower frequencies.

Pros:

  • Affordable
  • Decent audio
  • Control pod with headphone jack
  • Comes with a rack to hold your phone

Con:

  • Lower bass reach is missing
